The European Union‘s funding mechanism for research and innovation operates in multi-year framework programs, which are internally structured to e.g. scientific excellence, mobility of re-searchers, international collaborations as well as knowledge transfer.
The European framework program "Horizon Europe" (2021-2027) pools the EU's programs dedicated to research and innovation. Its internal structure maps the full innovation process, from idea to market.
So far LMU has participated in Horizon Europe with 158 projects and a total EU contribution of 102.53 m €. In Pillar I „Excellent Science“, which includes the European Research Council (ERC), the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) as well as funding of research infrastructures, LMU has so far participated with 116 projects.

Horizon 2020 (2014-2020) brought together EU-funded programs designed to stimulate research and innovation and incorporated the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
LMU participated in Horizon 2020 with 300 projects and a total EU contribution of 227.4m €. In Pillar I „Excellent Science“, which included programs such as the European Research Council (ERC) and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), LMU participated with 227 projects.
